The Unicorn girls soccer team delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night, defeating Highlands Owls 8-0 to capture the area championship and punch their ticket to the regional semifinals. The dominant victory continues an impressive postseason run for the New Braunfels Unicorns, who have now outscored opponents 11-2 through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

With the win, New Braunfels will face the McAllen Bulldogs in the regional semifinals. The match is scheduled for 7pm Thursday, March 26th, at Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi.

New Braunfels enters the matchup with a 14-7-4 overall record . The Unicorns opened the playoffs with a strong win over the Leander Lions before Tuesday’s shutout of Highlands.

McAllen brings a 20-3 record into the regional semifinal. The Bulldogs began their playoff run with a 2-1 victory over Harlingen South Hawks and followed it up with an area-round win against Flour Bluff.

The winner of Thursday’s regional semifinal will advance to the regional finals next week to face either Smithson Valley or Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial.
