The New Braunfels Unicorns baseball team is advancing in the UIL state playoffs after a dominant performance in the area round, sweeping the Southwest Dragons.

In Game 1, the Unicorns’ bats came alive in a 13-2 win. They followed that up with a run-rule win in Game 2, by a score of 10-0 to clinch the area championship and punch their ticket to the regional semifinals.

New Braunfels advances to face La Joya Palmview in a best-of-three regional semifinal series. All games will be played at Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi. Game 1 is set for Friday, May 16th at 7 p.m., followed by Game 2 on Saturday, May 17th at 4 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be played later that evening at 7 p.m.

The winner of the series will move on to the regional final to face either Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial or Smithson Valley.
