Long Creek High School’s Dragon Band has earned seventh place in the state in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Class 4A Honor Band competition, a significant achievement for the school’s growing music program.

Every other year, Texas high school bands have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious TMEA Honor Band process, which recognizes the top concert bands across the state. This year’s competition featured Class 4A schools, and Long Creek High School submitted recordings from its spring concert performances for evaluation.

Following a blind judging process, the Dragon Band earned third place in Area E/G, advancing to the TMEA State Semi-Finalist round. The band then advanced to the state Honor Band competition (top 10), held during the Texas Bandmasters Association Conference in San Antonio, where the Dragons ultimately earned seventh place in Texas.

The accomplishment is especially noteworthy as LCHS continues to build its traditions as a young campus. The Dragon Band competed against established programs from across the state and secured a top-10 finish in one of Texas’ most competitive music contests.

“We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved and excited about what lies ahead for the future of the Dragon Band,” said Long Creek High School Director of Bands Kyle Day.

New Braunfels ISD Director of Fine Arts Dr. Marty Lenard praised the dedication and support that helped make the achievement possible.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work of our students and directors, as well as the support of our community, parents and staff who have trusted and invested in this process from the very beginning,” said Lenard. “To earn seventh place in the state is remarkable, and to do so without a single senior in the ensemble speaks volumes about the talent and bright future of the Dragon Band program.”
