New Braunfels ISD has announced its December Senior Students of the Month: Lauren Austin and Parker Steele, both standout seniors at New Braunfels High School. The NBISD Board of Trustees recognized the pair during the regular board meeting on Monday, December 8th, celebrating their achievements, leadership, and contributions to the Unicorn community.

Lauren Austin

Lauren Austin, daughter of Paige and Don Austin, has attended New Braunfels High School for all four years. Throughout her time at NBHS, she has been deeply involved across campus and the community.

Lauren serves as a captain for Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Rotary Club, and HOSA. She is a varsity soccer player, a Unicorn Handler, and participates in New Braunfels Youth Leadership and Cotillion. Outside of school, she plays for the SA United Girls Soccer team and is active in student ministry at Oakwood Baptist Church.

Looking ahead, Lauren plans to attend Baylor University in the fall, where she will major in Health Sciences with a minor in religion. She will join Baylor’s Honors College and hopes to pursue a career as an Anesthesiology Assistant.

Parker Steele

Parker Steele, son of Suzanne and Wade Steele, has been a Unicorn since his freshman year in 2022.

Parker is a dedicated musician and an accomplished scholar, contributing to multiple NBHS music groups including the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band—where he serves as lead tenor saxophonist—the Marching Band, Saxophone Choir, and a saxophone quartet. He has also been part of Region Jazz Band, Texas Future Music Educators, and the Texas State Summer Band Camp.

Parker’s academic achievements include being named an AP Scholar with Distinction, qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship, and earning top scores at UIL Solo & Ensemble, where he received a “1” rating for both individual and ensemble performances. He is also a committed member of the Boy Scouts.

After graduation, Parker plans to study mathematics in college and hopes to continue playing music throughout his life.
