New Braunfels ISD is proud to recognize Sloan Wood and Maurice Blair as the New Braunfels ISD Seniors of the Month for December 2024. The announcement was made by NBHS Principal Greg Hughes during a monthly school board meeting on December 9th.

Sloan Wood
Sloan Wood has attended NBHS all four years of high school, where she has been involved in the National Honor Society, a proud Unicorn Handler and a varsity golf team member in which she made the first hole in one in women’s program history during her freshman year. She also was elected as chair of the community service committee on the student council and she has been a member of the girls soccer team.

Academically, she is ranked fifth in the class of 2025 and has never received a grade lower than an A. Sloan has been an AP Scholar and an AP Scholar with distinction. She also will have more than 150 service hours upon graduation. She has been a Vacation Bible School crew leader at Oakwood Baptist Church, she has been involved in removing invasive plant species in San Marcos, she has served as a coach at NBHS summer soccer camps and has volunteered at the Comal County Crisis Center.

Sloan has worked at the David Ogrin Golf Academy for the last two years in outside operations and management.

“I plan on working in finance and then starting my own business. I want to be a teacher or a professor once my business is fully self-sufficient to pass on my knowledge to future generations and make a difference in the lives of the young people,” she said.

Her plans are to study finance and she has already been accepted to Texas A&M and the University of Arkansas and is waiting to hear back from the University of Texas.

She is the daughter of Jenny and Robert Wood.

Maurice Blair
Maurice Blair has also been a four-year attendee of NBHS. In his time in Unicorn Country, he has been the founder and sole officer of the Debate and Math Club. He is also an officer and advisor for the Chess Club and Bir Tawil.

He has also participated in SkillsUSA, Cyber Patriots and as a member of Chick-fil-A leadership. Maurice also participated in the Circle Arts Theatre Ensemble where he had a role in Legally Blonde: The Musical. His acting career has also led to a lead role in the NBHS play Radio Daze. Maurice has assisted with the local Renaissance Faire, Adopt-A-Highway program, and the LEO Club. He has also worked for Schlitterbahn as a lifeguard.

He said his plans are to attend Rice University in Houston to obtain a Master’s Degree in Mathematics with hopes of having a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.

He is the son of Malcolm and Miri Blair.
