NBISD’s School of Choice will have a new name, a new mascot and a new campus by the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The NBISD Board of Trustees approved the new name of School of Choice to be Two Rivers High School during a regular meeting on December 9th. 

NBISD Board Members chose the name Two Rivers High School from those brought forward because of the tie to our community.

As NBISD opens two brand new elementary schools in the Fall of 2025: Legend Point Elementary and the new Lamar Elementary, the current Lamar campus will be left vacant. This vacancy has led to the district repurposing that campus into the newly named Two Rivers Academy and the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, also known as DAEP. Two Rivers Academy and DAEP will be housed in the building starting in August.

Earlier this school year, current School of Choice students participated in a survey to help shape their school’s identity. As part of the process, students voted on the school’s name, mascot and school colors. 

The Phoenix emerged as the favorite for the school’s mascot, keeping with the mythological theme of the other NBISD mascots, the Unicorns and Dragons. 

Also, the school colors will be blue and orange with the blue being Yale Blue and the orange being Syracuse Orange. As per Board policy, the blue color scheme aligns with all school colors having a shade of blue incorporated in them. 

“The work being done at School of Choice is truly important so giving them a name and a mascot and having them hold their own graduation ceremony in the future really signifies that it is truly one of our high schools,” added NBISD Superintendent Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury.
