New Braunfels ISD has officially released the 2026 varsity football schedules for New Braunfels High School and Long Creek High School, setting the stage for a historic season as both programs compete together in Class 5A District 13.
The upcoming season marks several milestones for Long Creek High School. The 2026 campaign will be the first time in school history that the Dragons compete in a varsity district, have a senior class, and are eligible for the UIL football playoffs. Adding to the excitement, the Dragons will share the district with the New Braunfels Unicorns, setting up the first-ever Mythic Matchup between the two schools to close the regular season.
Unicorns Open with Historic Rivalries
New Braunfels will begin the 2026 season on the road with two historic rivalry games. The Unicorns will open on August 28 against Seguin in the annual Guadalupe River Bowl, followed by a September 4 trip to New Braunfels Canyon for the Wurst Bowl. New Braunfels won both rivalry contests in lopsided fashion during the 2025 season.
The Unicorns will return home for their season opener at Unicorn Stadium on September 11 against Clemens, a familiar opponent from previous district play. The last meeting between the two teams came during the 2023–24 season when New Braunfels secured a thrilling 32-30 double-overtime victory.
New Braunfels will wrap up non-district play on Thursday, September 17 against Cedar Park at Gupton Stadium in Leander.
District play begins Thursday, September 24 when the Unicorns host Liberty Hill at Unicorn Stadium. The team will then travel to San Antonio Veterans Memorial on October 2 before returning home October 16 to face Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch on October 16.
On October 23, New Braunfels will travel back to San Antonio to take on Alamo Heights. The Unicorns’ home finale will be October 30 against Boerne, which reached the state semifinals during the 2025 season.
The regular season will conclude November 6 at Dragon Stadium with the first-ever Mythic Matchup between the Unicorns and Dragons.
Dragons Face Challenging Inaugural District Season
Long Creek High School will open its 2026 campaign with a challenging non-district schedule as the program prepares for its first season of district competition.
The Dragons will begin on the road August 28 at Davenport, which advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs in 2025. Long Creek will then travel to Boerne on Thursday, September 3 to face Champion.
Dragon Stadium will host its home opener September 11 when the Dragons welcome Wimberley. The Texans advanced three rounds deep in the 2025 playoffs.
Long Creek will close out non-district play at home against the Floresville Tigers.
District play begins with a familiar opponent as the Dragons face Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch. The two schools opened just two years ago and have met each season since. Legacy Ranch won last year’s matchup 35-21, while Long Creek claimed a 59-44 victory in 2024.
The Dragons will host Alamo Heights on October 2 before traveling to Boerne for a Thursday night contest on October 8.
Long Creek returns home October 23 for a game against Liberty Hill before heading to San Antonio Veterans Memorial on October 30.
The Dragons will close the regular season on November 6 by hosting New Braunfels in the first-ever Mythic Matchup between the two NBISD comprehensive high schools.
With a new district, historic milestones for Long Creek, and the debut of the Mythic Matchup rivalry, the 2026 football season promises to be one of the most exciting in New Braunfels ISD history.
