New Braunfels High School sophomore Savanah Moya earned a top-five finish at the Class 5A State Cross Country Championship on November 2nd. The race was held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Moya completed the race with an impressive time of 18:15.60. Her time was more than 20 seconds faster than the time she ran at state last year as a freshman. 

At state, she finished only behind two-time state champion and Olympic trials competitor Elizabeth Leachman (Boerne Champion), Dana Rojas Vasquez (McAllen), Brady Solansky (Smithson Valley), and Sofia Phillips (Birdville).

Moya’s performance at the state meet caps a eason where she consistently excelled, including a third-place finish at the regional competition. In addition to winning races, she ran a personal best of 17:55, which was good enough for the third-fastest time in Unicorn history.
