Since being established in 1965, the Silver Unicorn has been a beacon of recognition for the NBISD community. This prestigious award was initiated by the NBISD Board of Trustees and it honors individuals who have dedicated themselves to the students of NBISD.

Each year, nominations are accepted from community members and the Silver Unicorn recipients are approved by the board.

Since its inception, the Silver Unicorn has had more than 300 recipients, who have dedicated countless hours to serving the NBISD community.

Their examples of selflessness set an example that prompts others, including the children they are helping, to help others when the opportunity arises. This cycle of giving and concern for others is one of the qualities that make New Braunfels a strong community.

Marisol Padilla is a beloved Spanish teacher at New Braunfels High School and has dedicated her career to inspiring students and enhancing the school community.

A proud NBHS graduate of1991, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Spanish from Texas State University in 1997 before returning to NBHS to teach.

She has led as Foreign Language Department Chair and Spanish Club sponsor for years, shaping the department and mentoring student teachers and first-year educators. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom—she actively serves on campus improvement committees and enthusiastically supports students at academic and athletic events.

Passionate about language and culture, she has instilled a deep appreciation for Spanish in her students, guiding many to success in AP Spanish Language and Literature. Her dedication has helped students earn university credit and pursue diverse careers using their language skills.

Her influence goes beyond academics—she fosters a positive, enriching environment for students and colleagues. Her commitment to excellence and unwavering support for NBHS make her a deserving 2025 Silver Unicorn Award recipient.

Albert Aguilar Jr. is a 1987 New Braunfels High School graduate, he was a student leader as Colonel of the Mighty Unicorn Marching Band and Senior Class Treasurer. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Animal Science and has dedicated 27 years to the USDA Farm Service Agency, assisting farmers and ranchers across Texas.

Beyond his professional career, he has remained deeply involved in NBISD, volunteering extensively in his daughters’ schools. As a “Watchdog” at Klein Road and Walnut Springs Elementary, a Spanish Language Liaison and Treasurer for the Voss Farms PTA, and a Lifetime PTA Member Award recipient, his commitment to education is undeniable.

His impact extends to the NBHS Dance Program, where he has redefined parental involvement. Serving in various leadership roles within the Booster Club, including Chairman of the Board, he has worked closely with directors to strengthen the program.

Most notably, he spearheaded the inaugural Daddy-Daughter Dance, now a cherished community tradition that fosters family connections while supporting NBHS dancers.

This honoree exemplifies selfless leadership and dedication. His lasting contributions to NBISD and the broader community make Albert Aguilar, Jr. genuinely deserving of the honor of the 2025 Silver Unicorn Award.
