New Braunfels ISD elementary athletes made a strong showing at the Elks Lodge State Hoop Shoot Competition in Dallas, with Casey Orr and Nia Treloar each securing second-place finishes in their divisions. Veramendi Elementary’s Joseph Cardenas proudly represented the district at the state level as well.

The Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot is a prestigious free-throw contest that challenges young athletes to demonstrate accuracy, focus, and composure under pressure. The competition draws top talent from across the state each year.

The competition and Dallas was difficult and Orr and Treolar were participating for an opportunity to compete at the Southwest Regional event. Each of them came up just shy with Orr even taking his oppponent into sudden death overtime. The first-place finishers advanced to the regional finals, which will take place in Dallas next month. The regional features competitors from Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. From there, competitors will have the chance to qualify for the National Finals, set to be held in Chicago this April.

At nationals, the winners will have their names enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Congratulations to Casey Orr, Nia Treloar, and Joseph Cardenas for their outstanding performances at state!
