While Oak Run Middle School students work to practice kindness year round, this week, the school launched a kindness initiative to create a positive and inclusive school environment. The kickoff coincided with Unity Day and Digital Citizenship Week, where students took part in an Adobe Express lesson on generative AI and learned how to identify trustworthy sources online. Along with the digital lessons, students celebrated Unity Day by wearing orange to promote anti-bullying awareness. 

Looking ahead, ORMS is gearing up for Red Ribbon Week, scheduled from October 28 to November 1. During this time, clubs will incorporate kindness initiatives. They will also be competing in a door decorating contest with the winners being announced on November 22.

The Kindness Initiative will include giving back to the community as well with Communities In Schools. Together they will host a food drive throughout November to collect items for Thanksgiving Day meals.

The school will have two guest speakers representing David’s Legacy for sixth graders, while another speaker (details to be finalized) will speak to seventh and eighth graders. 

In December, ORMS will host a gift drive for the holidays, while January will feature a clothing drive for Maria’s Closet.
