The New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees recognized two outstanding students from New Braunfels High School during its Board meeting on Monday, May 11th, honoring their leadership, academic excellence, and service to both their school and community.

Franea Olmos

Franea Olmos, daughter of Patricia Mendoza and Efrain Olmos, has attended NBHS for all four years of high school and has built an impressive resume of academic achievement and student leadership.

Olmos has been recognized by the College Board as an AP Scholar and also received the First Generation and School Recognition Award. At NBHS, she serves as president of both DECA and the National Honor Society, while also holding leadership roles as Secretary of Student Council and Outreach Chair for the Robotics Club. In addition, she is a member of the District Educational Improvement Committee and Unicorn Handlers.

One of Olmos’ proudest accomplishments has been launching her passion project, “Lids for Kids,” in partnership with the Rotary Club. Through the initiative, students collect bottle caps in exchange for service hours, helping fund support for children battling cancer around the world.

Outside of school, Olmos is involved in leadership at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she recently helped lead the 2026 Spring ACTS Retreat.

After graduation, Olmos plans to attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in Petroleum Engineering, pursuing a career that combines her passion for math and science within the oil and gas industry.

Christian Cooke

Christian Cooke, son of Anissa Cooke and Christopher Cooke, has also attended NBHS for all four years and has distinguished himself through academics, leadership, and extracurricular involvement.

Cooke ranks eighth in the Class of 2026 and has completed an extensive list of Advanced Placement, OnRamps, and dual credit coursework. His AP coursework includes Human Geography, Psychology, World History, U.S. History, Chemistry, English Language, Computer Science Principles, Environmental Science, Government, Biology, Calculus BC, and Literature. He has also completed OnRamps courses in Precalculus, Physics 1, Statistics, and Economics, along with American Sign Language courses through a local community college.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Cooke has participated in a wide variety of clubs and organizations including Book Club, Math Club, Student Council, NHS, UIL Math and Science, and CyberPatriots, where he served as co-president. He also co-led Dinosaur Club and founded Bir Tawil. During his senior year, he joined the NBHS Bowling Team.

Cooke also earned straight A’s throughout all four years of high school and maintained perfect attendance from ninth through twelfth grade.

Following graduation, Cooke plans to attend Northeast Lakeview College to complete his associate degree while working and saving money, with future aspirations of starting his own business.
