New Braunfels ISD is pleased to announce the hiring of Nayane Olivas as the district’s new Director of Multilingual Programs. Olivas is an equity-driven bilingual education leader with more than 15 years of experience advancing services for Emergent Bilingual students, Dual Language learners, and newcomer populations across diverse Texas districts.
“I am thrilled to join the NBISD community,” Olivas said. “I look forward to building strong partnerships with schools, staff, and families to ensure our multilingual learners thrive.”
Olivas joins NBISD from Elgin ISD, where she most recently served as the ESL/Bilingual and Early Childhood Coordinator. She brings a wealth of experience in bilingual education, having also worked as an instructional coach and assistant principal in Austin ISD. She began her career as a dual language teacher and virtual educator for Austin ISD and K12 Online Schools from 2008 to 2019.
She brings a wide range of professional certifications to her role, including a Texas Principal Certification, along with Texas EC–4 and 4–8 Generalist Certifications. Additionally, she is certified in Bilingual Education Supplemental EC–4, English as a Second Language Supplemental EC–8, and Special Education Supplemental EC–8. Olivas is also certified in PreLAS and LAS Links Online, as well as CPI, PPfT Appraisal, and Virtual Teaching.
Originally from Brazil, Olivas is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese and draws on her personal experience as a former Emergent Bilingual student to guide her work with students, families, and educators.
Olivas holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and is certified in Bilingual Education, ESL, Special Education, and Principalship. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Studies in Sociology from Abilene Christian University.
She and her spouse, who is also an educator, are raising their three children in a trilingual, multicultural home.
