New Braunfels ISD is proud to announce that Dr. Marty Lenard, Director of Fine Arts, has been named as one of three finalists that will be considered by Governor Greg Abbott for appointment to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) Board of Trustees.
Lenard was in the top three of voting during the statewide elections which were held between March 14th and May 5th.
The election was organized to determine nominees to fill a public school district trustee position on the TRS Board. The six-year term currently held by Mr. Mike Ball of Argyle, Texas, will expire on September 1st, 2025. The Governor of Texas will now review the top three voted candidates and select one to appoint to the TRS Board of Trustees.
“I’m honored to have received the amount of votes I did from across the State. Speaking with bus drivers from El Paso ISD, teachers from Houston ISD and even old colleagues during the election process was humbling and put the role of a trustee in perspective,” Lenard said. “I would be honored to serve if selected by the Governor, however regardless I plan to continue the important work happening in New Braunfels ISD.”
Dr. Lenard currently oversees the NBISD fine arts program. He has implemented new fine arts events and recognitions during his time in the district. He has also led the way to attain the NAMM Best Communities for Music Education three years in a row. He previously served as a Board Member for Kerrville ISD Board of Trustees, Director for Kerr County Appraisal District Board and Commissioner for City of Kerrville Planning and Zoning Commission.
“Dr. Lenard is hard working, professional and intentional and works every day to make NBISD a great place for all students,” said Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury, NBISD Superintendent of Schools. “He’s a terrific leader, and I know he will serve our state well if he is selected.”
TRS serves more than 1.9 million public education employees and retirees and manages one of the largest public pension funds in the country. This appointment would mean that Dr. Lenard would contribute with insight to suring that the financial health and strategies of the TRS.
