More than 40 businesses and organizations were represented when hundreds of middle school students from New Braunfels ISD and Comal ISD attended the Career and Technical Education (CTE) CareerQuest Expo at the New Braunfels Civic Center on Thursday, November 6.

The annual event, facilitated by the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, is designed for eighth-grade students and serves as a hands-on introduction to a variety of career opportunities available in the area. From healthcare and hospitality to technology, manufacturing, and public service, students were able to explore potential professions while connecting directly with industry professionals.

Some of the businesses/organizations that were in attendance included the New Braunfels Police Department, Bluebonnet Ford, Communities in Schools, GVEC, Roofer Chicks, Texas State Technical College and many more.

“Events like this are important because they expose students to careers beyond those they may already know,” said NBISD CTE Director Rachel Behnke. “The timing of CareerQuest aligns with course selection, allowing students to make more informed decisions about their high school classes. In addition, it offers community members and local employers a chance to engage directly with the students who will one day become part of the local workforce.”

Partnerships between education, employers, and civic organizations are essential to the continued growth and vitality of our community.

CareerQuest not only helps students create a vision for their futures but it makes the connection between local education and businesses.
