The New Braunfels ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) held its first meeting of the 2026–2027 school year Wednesday, September 17, at the NBISD Administration Center, bringing together student leaders from New Braunfels High School and Long Creek High School to share their perspectives and help shape the future of the district.

The SSAC provides students with a direct platform to share insights, discuss concerns and collaborate on initiatives that can enhance the school experience for students across NBISD.

During their first meeting, students reviewed demographic data and discussed future projections for the district.

The information will help provide context as students work throughout the year to develop recommendations focused on the future of the NBISD student experience.

“The SSAC met this week and is already making an impact on our district through their feedback and input,” said Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury, NBISD Superintendent. “We know their voices will be instrumental as we work through long-range sustainability discussions. I am so grateful to our student leaders from Long Creek High School and New Braunfels High School for serving on SSAC and sharing their perspectives with us.”

The council will meet six times throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Its work this year will center on developing a vision for the student experience in NBISD 10 years from now, building upon the district’s Profile of a Learner.

As part of that work, SSAC members will:

• Draft a vision statement for the NBISD student experience 10 years from now, building upon the Profile of a Learner.

• Develop three to five recommendations for district leadership to help bring that vision to life.

• Share their recommendations with the district’s Long-Range Sustainability Committee this fall.

• Develop a Board presentation summarizing their recommendations to be presented by SSAC members at an NBISD Board of Trustees meeting in March 2027.

Through the SSAC, students have an opportunity to move beyond simply sharing feedback and take an active role in thinking about the future of NBISD. Their work this year will help bring student perspectives into conversations about long-range planning, sustainability and the experiences NBISD hopes to provide for future generations of students.

The council will continue meeting throughout the school year before presenting its work to the Board in March 2027.
