Student-led protests took place today at New Braunfels High School and Long Creek High School, with some students choosing to participate by walking out of class during the school day. While the district respects students’ rights to express their individual viewpoints, student safety and maintaining a positive, uninterrupted learning environment remained top priorities throughout the day.

“Student voice is an important part of civic learning, and we respect our students’ right to express themselves,” said Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury, Superintendent of New Braunfels ISD. “At the same time, our responsibility is to ensure the safety of all students and staff and to keep our campuses focused on learning.”

Students who chose to participate in a walkout during the instructional day were counted absent in accordance with district attendance guidelines. Students who remained in class continued their school day as regularly scheduled.

Campus administrators at both schools closely monitored activity and remained in communication with district safety personnel and local law enforcement as needed. At no time was student or staff safety compromised.

“Our administrative team was present and proactive throughout the day,” said Wade Ivy, Chief of Schools. “Our focus was on student safety, clear communication, and ensuring that learning continued for those who remained in class.”

Families were made aware of today’s events so they have the opportunity to have conversations with their students. Parents with questions are encouraged to contact their campus administration.
