The CPR in Schools With First Aid training kit teaches CPR, how to use an AED and basic first aid in just one class period. The easy-to-use kit can be facilitated by anyone and teaches 10 to 20 students at one time. CPR Anytime Kits allows anyone to learn basic lifesaving skills in about 20 minutes.

“This is such an exciting opportunity to highlight the life-saving impact we can make together, and we truly appreciate NBISD’s dedication to health and wellness,” said Jennifer Neasman, Director of School Engagement – American Heart Association North San Antonio.

The kits enhance existing legislation passed in 2013 that requires that students practice Hands-Only CPR training prior to graduation. This initiative exposes students to the lifesaving technique even earlier. Kids as young as nine can successfully perform Hands-Only CPR in the case of an emergency.

Elementary PE teachers from across NBISD gathered at Carl Schurz Elementary to accept the donation from representatives of the American Heart Association, SWBC, and Methodist Health. These CPR kits will be used in a variety of ways to benefit both students and families within the NBISD community.

“The campuses will use the CPR kits to teach students CPR,” said Carl Schurz Elementary PE Teacher Shannon Spence. “Additionally, the kits can be incorporated into parent night events as well.”

Secondary students will use both sets of kits in PE classes as well as in health classes.

NBISD is thankful to the American Heart Association, SWBC, and Methodist Health for their dedication to help teach students and families the importance of CPR.
