NBISD Athletics proudly hosted its second annual fifth-grade track meet on April 29th at Unicorn Stadium. What began last year as a new initiative is quickly becoming a tradition across the district, promoting teamwork, and school spirit among elementary students. 

In partnership with NBISD Athletics, the district’s elementary physical education teachers once again played a key role in organizing and coordinating the meet.

The event featured qualifying fifth-grade students from each elementary campus, competing in track and field events: the softball throw, standing broad jump, 400-meter run, 100-meter dash, and the 4×100-meter relay.

To earn a spot at the district meet, students first competed at their home campuses in the same events, with top performers advancing to Unicorn Stadium.

“We were thrilled to see the great turnout and the continued enthusiasm and sportsmanship from every campus,” said NBISD Assistant Athletic Director Russell Doege. “It’s exciting to watch this event grow and become something that our fifth-grade students look forward to each year.”

Volunteers once again included high school athletes from Long Creek and New Braunfels high schools, along with their coaches. Coaches and students  from Oak Run Middle School and New Braunfels Middle School also assisted in events and supported participants throughout the day.

With another successful year in the books, NBISD looks forward to continuing the Fifth-Grade Track Meet tradition and building on its success for years to come.
