NBISD Athletics proudly hosted its first-ever fifth-grade track meet on May 6th at Unicorn Stadium. The event is an exciting new tradition for the district, and it focuses on promoting fitness, teamwork, and school spirit across elementary campuses.
Along with NBISD Athletics, the district’s elementary physical education teachers came together to organize the meet.
Participants in the event included qualifying fifth-grade students from each elementary school. They competed in five track and field events: the softball throw, standing broad jump, 400-meter run, 100-meter dash, and the 4×100-meter relay.
To qualify for the district-wide meet, students first competed in the same events at their campuses, with top performers advancing to the fifth-grade track meet at Unicorn Stadium.
“We were thrilled to see the enthusiasm and sportsmanship from every campus and look forward to this event next year,” said NBISD Assistant Athletic Director Russell Doege.
Volunteers included high school athletes and students from Long Creek and New Braunfels along with many of their coaches. Oak Run Middle School and New Braunfels Middle School coaches were also at the event to assist.
NBISD plans to make the Fifth-Grade Track Meet an annual tradition, and hopes to see a great turnout again in the future. Click here to view and download photos from the event.
