Crowds of people came through the doors of New Braunfels Middle School to check out the second annual New Braunfels ISD Art Showcase on February 20th.

About 2,000 people attended the event to see more than 500 pieces of artwork that were on display by NBISD students.

“I thought the event was a great success. The feedback we received from parents and community members was overwhelmingly positive,” said NBISD Director of Fine Arts Dr. Marty Lenard. “There was a great appreciation for having an event like this to showcase all of the great talent with the students in NBISD.”

The event allowed access for community members, parents and students to view art that was on display. These pieces have been worked on throughout the school year and this event granted students the opportunity for those outside of their schools to see their work.

“I think there is an importance to have a district level event showcasing students from kindergarten through 12th grade because it shows the students and parents the progress of visual art techniques,” Lenard said. “Building any skill set has many different techniques that you build overtime and visual arts is no different. Parents and students are given the chance to see not only the great work their child is producing, but ultimately what it could lead to.”

Local professional artists also attended the showcase to do live demonstrations for students to show how the skill of creativity doesn’t stop when they graduate, it can continue as a profession just like any vocation.
