The Texas Education Agency (TEA) typically assigns annual A-F ratings to each public school district and campus based on students’ standardized test performance. However, full ratings have been partially withheld statewide since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, an ongoing lawsuit involving hundreds of school districts across the state has delayed the release of the ratings even more. In the lawsuit, districts have argued that the TEA did not provide sufficient notice before implementing new standards in the 2023 accountability system.

A recent court ruling has cleared the TEA to release its 2023 A-F school accountability ratings, overturning a previous injunction. A separate lawsuit concerning the 2024 ratings remains pending in the same appeals court. The release of the 2023 ratings marks the first time in five years that the TEA will release its full accountability ratings.

State accountability scores, reflecting the legislative change to an A-F system, were publicly released on April 24th by the TEA.  New Braunfels ISD received a B rating under this new rating system.
