New Braunfels ISD recognized seven outstanding student-athletes who have committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. These students have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in leadership roles across multiple programs. The student-athletes announced their commitments during a ceremony that was held in the New Braunfels High School Gym on Wednesday, February, 4th.

Among those who signed their National Letters of Intent were: 

Ava Briley – Cross Country / Track

Ava Briley signed with St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, competing at the NCAA Division II level on a partial scholarship. Briley is the daughter of Keith Briley and Evelyn Smith.

A four-year All-District performer in cross country, Briley earned All-Region honors in 2025, qualified for the UIL State Meet both individually and as part of a team, and ranks among NBHS’s all-time best in multiple distance events, including the 3200m (#12), 5K (#10), and 1600m (#15). She is a three-time recipient of the XC “Hamlin” Warrior Award and also qualified for area and regional competition in the 4×400 relay and distance track events.

Sara Helen Yoe – Tennis

Sara Helen Yoe will attend Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, competing at the NCAA Division III level on a partial scholarship. She is the daughter of Julie and James Yoe.

A four-year varsity player, Yoe earned Academic All-District honors three times and Academic All-State recognition as a senior. She helped lead the Unicorns to two district championships and qualified for regionals as a sophomore. During her senior season, she played line one singles and doubles, anchoring the team with consistency and leadership.

Emerson Ransom – Swimming

Emerson Ransom signed with Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, competing at the NCAA Division III level on a partial scholarship. He is the son of Amanda and Jacob Ransom.

Ransom has been a cornerstone of the NBHS swim program, earning multiple MVP honors and serving as team captain since his sophomore year.

Makynzie Morkovsky – Basketball

Makynzie Morkovsky will continue her basketball career at McPherson University in McPherson, Kansas, competing in the NAIA on a partial scholarship. She is the daughter of Kara Morkovsky and Aaron Morkovsky.

A two-year varsity letterman, Morkovsky was nominated for San Antonio Sports All-Star competition, and will compete in the 3-point contest.

Talon Cobb – Baseball

Talon Cobb signed with Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York, where he will compete at the junior college level as a preferred walk-on. Cobb is the son of Kirsten Bolton.

A two-year starting varsity pitcher, Cobb also earned an All-District Academic Award, reflecting his commitment to excellence both on the mound and in the classroom.

David Sargent – Football

David Sargent will attend East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas, competing at the NCAA Division III level on a partial scholarship. He is the son of Brian and Rebecca Sargent.

Sargent earned 2025 Academic All-District honors and was part of a Unicorn football team that advanced to the third round of the playoffs.

Matt Ford – Football

Matt Ford signed with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, where he will compete at the NCAA Division III level. Ford is the son of Rebecca and Richie Ford.

A key contributor to the Unicorn defense, Ford finished his senior season as the third-leading tackler for New Braunfels. He earned All-District and Academic All-District honors.
