The NBISD Board of Trustees has been announced as one of five finalists for the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program, one of the largest of its kind in the nation, honors educators, school districts, and boards that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and service to students and their communities. 

“Our Board demonstrates their passion for our wonderful community and the students and staff in our school district,” said Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury, NBISD Superintendent. “Their amazing work ensures that every student in our school district is getting the best possible education every day.”

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards were created in 2002 and are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to those educators, schools, districts, early childhood facilities and school board members who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same.

This honor is designed to recognize school boards that have demonstrated real leadership in the community that it serves based on three basic criteria:

-Academic/student progress within the district

-Identification of community needs and specific actions taken based on those needs

-New and creative methods for community engagement

Five school boards, including NBISD, were notified earlier this month that they have been selected as finalists. The other school districts that were named finalists include: Clear Creek ISD, Gregory-Portland ISD, Plano ISD and Lamar CISD.

A judging committee then will visit the district and each school board will be presented with a check for $5,000 to the district in which they represent. In addition, each school board member will receive an all-expense paid trip to the awards celebration in May.

If the board is selected to receive a special judges award, they can receive up to $25,000 in the form of a grant for NBISD.

The NBISD Board of Trustees consists of seven elected members:
