The New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees approved new elementary attendance zones for the 2025-2026 school year during a regular meeting on March 10th.
“I appreciated the time that the administration put into it and all of the extra meetings,” said Vice President Nancy York. “They included the community in the decision making and I believe Every Student. Every Day. is being honored.”
Rezoning of attendance zones is necessary due to the opening of two new elementary schools in the Fall of 2025, which is being driven by the district’s growth and the need to update aging facilities.
Legend Point Elementary will open in August as part of the Dragon feeder pattern, while the “new” Lamar Elementary, located off Loop 337, will open in August as part of the Unicorn feeder pattern.
After reviewing feedback on the two proposed rezoning scenarios, NBISD took the input into account and developed the final version of the elementary attendance zones that were approved by the Board. The district also held in-person community forums, allowing stakeholders to share their thoughts and ask questions. This feedback led to adjustments which were used to create the final attendance zones.
Elementary Rezoning Process
Feedback from a recent strategic planning survey helped with the creation of the first and second scenarios for new attendance zones. The priorities guiding the development of these zones include keeping school enrollments at or below building capacity and assigning students to the school closest to their homes. Additional goals aim to minimize the frequency of changes in a student’s academic career, establish aligned feeder patterns to ensure students stay with a consistent cohort from elementary through high school, and keep students from the same neighborhood together. These priorities reflect the district’s commitment to maintaining stability, community connections, and equitable access to education across all campuses.
The goal of NBISD’s attendance zoning process is to make sure that all students have access to a high-quality education as well as creating new opportunities for our students districtwide. By engaging in thoughtful planning with community stakeholders, NBISD aims to continue working closely with the community to fulfill our duty to remain fiscally responsible and to support the long-term growth and success of our district.
Additionally, NBISD recently announced a five-year strategic plan – Future Focused 2030: A Collaborative Vision for NBISD. This vision was developed by NBISD stakeholders and includes what the district should prioritize over the next five years as we continue to grow, innovate and respond to the needs of our students.
Pillar 2 of NBISD’s new strategic plan looks to support more engaging, relevant and future ready learning experiences for all of our students. The district wants to make sure that students will have access to a variety of learning experiences that support future readiness in our ever-changing world.
A Future Ready Learning Implementation Team has been created and has started planning for the first elementary magnet school in district history. The new school is set to open in August 2026 at the current County Line Elementary campus.
Also, with one of the two brand new elementary schools opening being the new Lamar, this means that the current Lamar campus will be repurposed into Two Rivers High School and the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, also known as DAEP.
