New Braunfels ISD was named a Texas Way District of Distinction by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the UIL. The award was announced during the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association convention in Round Rock on June 4th.

NBISD was one of 18 school districts across the state this year. The recognition celebrates NBISD’s commitment to promoting good sportsmanship and positive fan behavior during all athletic events. 

As part of the campaign, NBISD created and aired a special video before games featuring student-athletes from every Unicorn and Dragon sports team. In the video, students encouraged fans to support their teams with respect and class.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our coaches, student-athletes, fans and community,” Mendoza said. “We are thankful and proud of the culture of respect and integrity our students and fans have displayed over the last year here in NBISD.”

The Texas Way initiative is part of THSCA’s and the UIL’s broader mission to promote the development of student-athletes not only as competitors, but as leaders and role models both on and off the field. The Texas Way is a collaborative initiative aimed at promoting better sportsmanship in high school athletics. It focuses on improving respect, controlling self-behavior, and embracing the spirit of competition, ultimately aiming to reduce ejections and foster positive relationships among all participants

Other schools earning this distinction were: Boerne ISD, Canyon ISD, Center ISD, Connally ISD, Corpus Christi ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Harmony Public Schools, Irving ISD, La Joya ISD, McAllen ISD, McKinney ISD, Mission CISD, North East ISD, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD, Prosper ISD, Rice ISD and Southwest ISD. 

Additionally 59 other school districts were awarded as Honorable Mention Districts of Distinction.
