Students from New Braunfels High School and Long Creek High School were recognized for their outstanding athletic achievements at the NBISD Board of Trustees meeting on March 10th. Among those honored were standout swimmers and wrestlers who represented their schools at the UIL State Championships.
New Braunfels High School swimmers Scout House and Fynn Minus showcased their talents at the Class 5A UIL State Swim Meet held at the University of Texas at Austin.
LCHS freshman swimmer Leilani Ancheta was also slated to be recognized after winning silver and bronze medals at the Class 4A swim meet in San Antonio. However, she was unable to attend the meeting. Ancheta is the first Dragon athlete to earn a state medal in any sport.
In wrestling, five NBHS athletes reached the UIL State Wrestling Tournament in Cypress. The Unicorn State Wrestlers honored included Colin McQuone, Miller Marsh, Lyric Larry, Casey Williams, and Riley Castilleja. McQuone delivered secured a third place overall finish, earning him a bronze medal in his division.
LCHS was also represented at the state level, with sophomore wrestler Cruz Morales making a remarkable impact at the 5A championships.
The UIL only has wrestling competitions at the Class 5A and Class 6A levels. Morales battled through tough competition to claim a fourth-place medal, marking a significant achievement for the Dragons’ wrestling program.
