The New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees approved the district’s tax rate of $1.0377 per $100 of taxable value for the 2024-25 school year. This decision was finalized during a special board meeting that was held on August 21.
The newly-adopted tax rate is slightly lower than the original projected rate when the Board adopted a balanced budget of $104.8 million for the upcoming school year. The 2024-25 tax rate is $0.0042 lower than the rate adopted for the 2023-24 school year.
During the special meeting, the Board approved a tax rate allocation of $0.3408 for debt service and $0.6969 for maintenance and operations. Initially, the projected maintenance and operations rate was $0.7011.
The reduced rate was made possible after NBISD received certified property values from the Comal and Guadalupe Appraisal Districts, which allowed the district to adjust its calculations for the upcoming year.
The tax rate reduction will directly benefit taxpayers while ensuring that the educational quality and programs that NBISD offers will remain uncompromised.
“We had an opportunity to take advantage of a lower tax rate to provide some relief to our constituents, so we felt it was necessary to do just that,” said NBISD Chief Financial Officer Paul McLarty. “NBISD Trustees and leadership have been working together to ensure tax relief while continuing to provide a top-notch education for Every Student. Every Day.”
