The New Braunfels High School Cross Country team turned in an impressive performance against some of the top cross country teams in the state at the Lovejoy Fall Festival, which was held at Myers Park in McKinney on September 13th.

The highlight of the day came from Savanah Moya, who dominated the 5K Varsity Elite Girls Division. Moya finished first overall with a time of 17:43.80, while the second-place runner from College Station A&M Consolidated crossed the finish line with a time of 17:55.80.

Fellow Unicorn Ava Briley also had a strong showing, finishing 18th out of nearly 140 competitors. The Unicorn girls’ squad placed fifth overall out of 17 teams, finishing just behind acclaimed programs Lucas Lovejoy, Dallas Highland Park, A&M Consolidated, and Prosper.

On the boys’ side, the Unicorns faced also faced stiff competition, securing a 10th-place team finish among 26 schools. Cristian Lopez Lopez earned 34th place out of almost 200 runners.

The teams will face more stiff competition on September 20th, as they are slated to compete in the McNeil Invitational at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. They will follow that with the Seguin Invitational on September 27 followed by the district meet on October 8th.
