As the reconstruction of New Braunfels High School moves forward, the NBISD Memorabilia Committee is working hard to preserve the rich history of the school. This eight-member team, made up of former teachers, coaches, students, and alumni, is dedicated to preserving NBHS’s traditions and artifacts. The committee brings together a group of people who have deep ties to the school and the community.

Aside from the eight community members, NBISD staff including Wade Ivy, Chief of Schools, and Bobby McLaughlin, Construction Project Manager, both of whom are former Unicorns, are also working with the committee. 

“The purpose of this group is to identify and determine the most appropriate way to preserve items in order to honor the history of all the alumni of NBHS,” Ivy said. “It will also serve as a reminder to our current and future students of the excellence that has been built over the years.”

One feature that will be preserved is the iconic Unicorn glass in the current commons area. This embossed glass will be removed and reinstalled in the new building.

Construction at NBHS is well underway with Phase 1, which was funded by the 2021 Bond Program. This phase, expected to be completed in the Fall of 2025.

The second phase, funded by the 2024 Bond Program, has a projected completion date of the Spring of 2029. The current main building is expected to be demolished in late 2026 or early 2027 as part of this two-part plan to replace the aging campus, originally built in 1963.

They will be finding ways to preserve items in a multitude of ways including digital artifacts. The NBISD Memorabilia Committee will ensure that the history of NBHS is honored and preserved for years to come.
