The Maria’s Closet initiative recently received a $10,000 grant through NB Women Go to support the purchase of a mobile resource unit. The commitment reflects not only generosity but also a deep understanding of the challenges facing New Braunfels ISD’s most vulnerable students.

“With their support, we will be able to eliminate one of the greatest barriers to access — transportation — by bringing essential resources directly to those in need,” said Tera Thompson, NBISD’s Director of Federal Programs. “This mobile unit will allow us to serve our homeless and most underserved students across the district with dignity, care, and consistency.”

Maria’s Closet offers NBISD students clothes, toiletries, school supplies and more free of charge. The Closet also offers resources for families in need, whether it be for housing, food or assistance with bills. The crew from Maria’s Closet entered and won the grant based on a video that explained the need for a mobile unit as many of those in need do not have the transportation necessary to visit Maria’s Closet in person.

“The commitment of NB Women Go is an inspiring example of collective impact in action. By pooling donations to uplift our District, they are changing lives and empowering students in tangible, lasting ways,” Thompson said. “We are especially grateful for the timing of this gift and the respect and trust they have placed in our mission. We are proud and honored to be one of the many causes they champion.”
