The final $5,000 donation needed to complete the project was made on December 3rd by the McKenna Foundation, which previously contributed $5,000 toward the same initiative. McKenna’s continued support played a pivotal role in making the mobile unit possible.

Major contributions also came from New Braunfels resident Carol Folbre, who donated $10,000, and NB Women Go, which also contributed $10,000. Additional private donations and grants, including $5,000 from Walmart helped close the remaining funding gap.

With these combined gifts, Maria’s Closet will now be able to purchase and outfit a van designed to bring clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and other necessities directly into neighborhoods across the community.

“This mobile resource unit will allow us to reach families who have the greatest need but the least access,” said Tera Thompson, NBISD Director of Federal Programs and Grants. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of all of the donors who made this dream a reality.”

The mobile unit is expected to begin operating after it is fully equipped and branded in the coming months. Maria’s Closet plans to partner with schools, community centers, and local organizations to schedule regular neighborhood visits.
