New Braunfels ISD has announced the hiring of Roger Luna as its new Director of IT Operations. Luna, a New Braunfels High School graduate, began his role with NBISD on August 11th, and brings more than 30 years of information technology experience in the public and private sectors.

“New Braunfels is my hometown, and having progressed through NBISD as a student not only set me on my educational and career paths, it allowed me to make lifelong friends and lifelong memories,” he said. “I am thrilled to serve the school district which has positively impacted me and countless family and friends.” 

Luna previously served Comal ISD as the Database Systems Analyst, a position that he held since 2021. In that role, he was the technical liaison for district instructional and operational initiatives, managing application development and data systems to deliver secure, scalable solutions that aligned with Comal ISD goals. Luna also collaborated with stakeholders to assess needs, design and deploy functional systems, and support SIS platforms, asset management, and ticketing systems to enhance IT service delivery.

In his new position, Luna will oversee a team responsible for the district’s network infrastructure, systems administration, information systems, desktop support, and help desk operations. He will also collaborate with the Instructional Technology team on a daily basis. Under his guidance, this team will work to deliver reliable, innovative, and responsive technology solutions that empower the district’s educational mission.

His career includes leadership roles such as Director of Information Systems for Resolute Health Hospital, Vice President of IT Operations and Senior Systems Engineer at Invictus Healthcare Solutions, and IT Manager for Ingram Readymix, Inc. 

Luna also spent more than a decade with Christus Health System as an Enterprise Systems Administrator III and team lead, and he worked as a Technical Systems Administrator II for Republic National Distributing Company.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Cloud and Systems Administration and a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University. Luna also holds professional certifications including ITIL, CompTIA Project+, Security+, Network+, A+, and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Luna and his wife Elva reside in New Braunfels and have three sons: David, Matthew, and Peter, all of whom are NBHS graduates. Luna enjoys traveling and cruising, cooking barbecue, spending time with family, and performing live music as the guitarist with his band.
