The Long Creek Dragon Band, Color Guard and Dance programs made history this past Saturday by participating – and winning – their very first marching contest at the Bands of America (BOA) Central Texas Regional.

The event was held at University Federal Credit Union Stadium in San Marcos. These students not only competed for the first time but also excelled, earning Best in Class awards for Outstanding Music, Visual Performance and General Effect.

“We are so incredibly proud of the students, staff and families who have made this past weekend possible! It was a truly special couple of days and such a wonderful experience for our entire Dragon Band community.” said Long Creek High School Band Director Kyle Day. “From our first ever Comal County Fair Day Parade, to an awesome Football game the same evening, to our first ever marching contest on Saturday. The culture, work ethic and determination of this group of students is really exciting to see, and we look forward to continuing the growth of this program!”

The Dragons were named Bands of America Class 1A Champions for the Central Texas Region, marking the first time a band from New Braunfels ISD has claimed a class championship title at a BOA Regional. BOA is the largest national competitive band circuit. As Class Champions, the Dragons had the honor of performing in an exhibition encore to a packed stadium, concluding with their participation in the Olympic-style band retreat where they proudly received their championship medallions.

This victory is the result of a collaboration among NBISD’s Fine Arts programs, including the band and percussion, under the direction of Analisa Gonzalez; the color guard, led by Chloe Uelman; and the Embers dance team, directed by Melanie Hastings.
