Kristi Schindler, an educator at Lamar Elementary, has been named the Region 20 Dyslexia Teacher of the Year by the Region 20 Education Service Center, recognizing her outstanding commitment to supporting students with dyslexia and helping them reach their full potential.
Schindler was surprised with the honor during the school day on February 9th by representatives from Region 20 Education Service Center, along with leaders from New Braunfels ISD’s Special Education and Lamar Elementary administration, including Principal Chris Russell and Assistant Principal Sara DeLuna.
The surprise celebration highlighted the significant impact Schindler has made through her expertise, compassion, and dedication to student success in the field of dyslexia.
The Region 20 Dyslexia Teacher of the Year award honors educators who demonstrate exceptional skill in providing specialized instruction, fostering student growth, and advocating for students with dyslexia.
This level of recognition is reserved for Professional Dyslexia Interventionists (PDIs) who have demonstrated full mastery of their district’s adopted instructional materials. Kristi’s commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based intervention is a shining example of excellence in student support.
Schindler’s work has helped countless students build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and overcome challenges, empowering them both academically and personally.
“Kristi’s passion for her students and her commitment to helping them succeed is evident in everything she does,” said Nina Houston, NBISD Executive Director of Special Education. “She goes above and beyond to ensure every student feels supported, capable, and valued. This recognition is well deserved, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of NBISD.”
She was formally honored as the Region 20 Dyslexia Teacher of the Year during a dyslexia conference held on February 28th, where educators and specialists from across the region gathered to recognize excellence in dyslexia instruction and advocacy.
