Fiesta Lanes buzzed with excitement on Friday, November 1st, as NBISD Special Education and Life Skills students gathered for the annual Special Olympics Bowling event.

Although Bowling does not belong to the Olympic sports, it is among the most popular sports in Special Olympics. It is a particularly beneficial sport to people with intellectual disabilities , irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration, according to Special Olympics.

This event offered students two rounds of bowling, and there were plenty of smiles, and high fives to go around. The event kicked off with the opening ceremony, featuring both the Special Olympics Pledge and the Pledge of Allegiance to get the day started.

Students showed their skills and earned medals in recognition of their efforts. The NBISD community came together in support, with teachers, staff, and families applauding the bowlers throughout the day.
