New Braunfels ISD is pleased to announce that Felicia Garza has been selected as the New Braunfels High School Director of Bands. She has served as the Associate Band Director at NBHS since the beginning of the 2022 school year.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to be the next Director of Bands at New Braunfels High School. The students are the heart of the program, and I’m excited to support their growth and continue the tradition of excellence alongside a dedicated staff,” Garza said. “With the continued support of our campus, district, and band community, we are well-positioned to provide great experiences for every student who is a member of the band.”

Prior to NBHS, Garza was a general music teacher for students from Pre-K through 5th grade at El Dorado Elementary School in San Antonio. In 2021, she was a student teacher, assisting with the Johnson High School Band that was a Class 6A UIL State Marching Finalist and Bands of America regional, super regional and national finalist. From 2019 to 2021, as a Baylor University student, Garza was an undergraduate staff member assisting with ensemble recruitment, logistic planning for games and travel and assisting with music and marching rehearsals.

Garza has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Baylor University, and she is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. She will be replacing David Eckert who recently announced his retirement. NBISD Director of Fine Arts Dr. Marty Lenard was thankful for Eckert’s service and the dedication he had to place the NBHS band in a strong position for the future.

“We listened to the students, parents, teachers and community members, and it was clear that after Mr. Eckert’s wonderful career there was a desire to keep the strong tradition of excellence in place moving forward,” Lenard said. “Over the past few years, Ms. Garza has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to student success and excellence, which makes her the perfect fit to lead the Mighty Unicorn Band into the future.”

Garza resides in New Braunfels with her two cats, Magenta and Rosie.
