Congratulations to Kennady Fontenot, a sophomore standout at Texas A&M University and 2022 New Braunfels High School graduate!

She is headed to the National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon after a terrific performance in the 3000m Steeplechase.

The National event will be held June 11th to 14th and televised on NBC. To qualify for Nationals, the top 12 competitors from each individual event in the West Region and The East Region advance to Nationals.

Fontenot placed fourth in her heat at the NCAA West First Round on Saturday, May 30, at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station. Her time of 9:58.13 not only secured her spot as a qualifier and improved her mark to second in A&M’s record book.

For those unfamiliar with steeplechase, it’s a long distance running event in that involves running over various obstacles, including fixed barriers and a water jump.
