NBISD Athletics hosted the inaugural Mythic Middle School Matchup on September 16th at Unicorn Stadium, giving Oak Run Middle School and New Braunfels Middle School students the chance to experience the Friday Night Lights atmosphere!

The evening brought together a terrific crowd and featured performances from the bands, choirs, dance teams, and cheerleaders, in addition to exciting football action on the field. For the first time, both middle schools faced off in an official game, moving away from the traditional scrimmage format of previous years.

One of the primary goals of the new tradition is to provide a positive environment for both Dragons and Unicorns to learn how to compete with one another the NBISD Way, “Stronger Together.” The collaboration with the Athletics and Fine Arts Departments added to the full stadium atmosphere, giving students, families, and the community a memorable night to celebrate.

The Mythic Middle School Matchup also reflects NBISD’s commitment to strengthening community engagement and building evolving traditions. This initiative ties directly to Pillar 3 of the Future Focused 2030 strategic plan, as the district continues to grow into a two-feeder-pattern system.
