New Braunfels ISD has announced Dr. Lani Norman as its new Chief Academic Officer. Norman will begin her new role on July 1st, succeeding Kara Bock, who will be retiring this summer.

“I am beyond excited to join such a premier district and lead the academic work and vision for the future,” Dr. Norman said. “It is an honor to serve New Braunfels ISD in this capacity and continue the commitment to our community—every student, every day.”

Dr. Norman joins NBISD from Tyler ISD, where she has served as Chief Academic Officer since 2022. In her new role, she will lead and manage curriculum across the district, oversee all academic programs, and serve as a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Dr. Norman as our new Chief Academic Officer,” said NBISD Superintendent Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury. “Her understanding and passion for student achievement and curriculum and instruction make her an exceptional choice to lead NBISD academics.”

Before joining Tyler ISD, Dr. Norman was the Executive Director of Learning for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD from 2020-2022. From 2017-2020, she held the position of Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Life School in the Dallas area.

Additionally, Dr. Norman worked as an assistant principal at Colleyville Middle School from 2016-2017, and before that she served in the role of learning liaison at Colleyville Heritage High School and Heritage Middle School from 2012 until 2016. She began her career in education as an English teacher at Waller High School and Colleyville Heritage High School, where she taught from 2005 until 2012.

Dr. Norman has presented at the state and national levels on a variety of educational topics. Her professional highlights include serving as a member of the TEA Chief Academic Officer Advisory Council and presenting at conferences such as the Future Ready Superintendent Leadership Network, Learning Forward National Conference, TASA Midwinter and multiple ACSD events.

She has her principal certification as well as English Language Arts and Reading for grades 8 to 12 and T-TESS Appraiser certification.

Dr. Norman earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in English from Texas A&M University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas.
