Colorful new artwork is popping up on traffic signal boxes around downtown New Braunfels, featuring whimsical Unicorns and Dragons.
The installations are part of the City of New Braunfels Traffic Signal Box Art Program, which invited local artists to submit original designs for display on downtown traffic boxes. The program aims to brighten streetscapes, highlight community pride, and provide local artists with a visible platform for their work.
Among this year’s selected artists is Helena Dixon, a recent graduate of New Braunfels High School Class of 2025.
Dixon’s Unicorn and Dragon designs now appear on downtown traffic boxes, adding a creative touch to the city’s streetscape.
Her “River Riders” design which includes Unicorns tubing can be found at the intersection of N. Castell and W. San Antonio Street.
Her other piece titled “Critter Current” which includes many things you’d see around New Braunfels including Unicorns and Dragons can be found at the intersection of S. Seguin and W. Garden Street.
Dixon has previously received statewide recognition for her artwork. Her Dragon design was one of just 100 student pieces selected for display at the Texas Governor’s Mansion by Governor Greg Abbott. Her work also was put on display in the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin.
