Amanda Hunt, the Library Media Specialist at Oak Run Middle School and NBISD Secondary Lead Librarian, has been named the recipient of the Young Adult Reading Incentive Award (YARI). Hunt earned the award after for the winning program which was UniCon: For All Unicorns – a comic con event for ORMS and its feeder schools in NBISD!

In the near future, plans are to make this event one that will be districtwide for both Unicorn and Dragon feeder patterns.

Each year, YART, the Young Adult Round Tables, honors a library worker who has shown exceptional ability in motivating young adults to read by developing and implementing a creative and effective reading program for young adults in grades 6-12.

Criteria to win this award includes:

• Development and implementation of a creative and effective reading incentive program for young adults in grades 6-12 within the preceding eighteen months.
• Evidence of patron/student motivation to read and participate in the reading incentive program.

To be eligible, one:

• Must be a member of the Young Adult Round Table.
• Must be a public or school librarian who has served young adults in grades 6-12 within the preceding eighteen months of the presentation of the award.
• May be nominated by any resident of the State of Texas: self, school administrators, students, teachers, librarians, library board members, Friends of the Library members, parents, patrons, etc.
• May not be nominated while serving on the Young Adult Round Table Awards Committee or for 12 months following terms of service.
