Curriculum Resources

Get Involved

The possibilities are endless when it comes to volunteering in NBISD schools. All volunteers must contact the campus principal to discuss those opportunities.

Being a mentor can make a difference in a child’s life. NBISD schools welcome any parent or community volunteer that would like to mentor a child. Each campus has a Communities in Schools (CIS) Program Coordinator on site that can be contacted for more information. All mentors must complete and pass a background check.

When it comes to parental involvement there is no other better way to get involved than to join the campus PTA. Every campus in NBISD has an active PTA. The district also has a District PTA Council to assist with the collaboration between schools. For more information, join online.
Several campuses have groups for dads or other male role models to join and get involved. Watch D.O.G.S. is one program that allows male role models to be on campus and demonstrate with their presence that education is important and provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a great sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers the ability to focus on learning and instruction.

All Pro Dads is another nationally recognized program that brings dads and their kids to school on a monthly basis to engage in meaningful conversations and activities centered around a character-based curriculum.

Digital Responsibility

Below you will find information on the programs developed by the TxSSC for legal consequences, and other unintended consequences, of sharing of visual material depicting a minor engaged in sexual content.
Sexting is a crime in Texas even if no adult is involved. Under Texas Penal Code Section 43.261, it is a crime for a minor to “intentionally or knowingly” send another minor an obscene photo/video or a photo/video of a minor engaging in sexual conduct, if they know it was a minor. First-time offenses are punishable by a Class C misdemeanor, but the statute indicates that under some circumstances a first-time offender can be charged with a Class B misdemeanor.

In 2019, the Texas Legislature added Penal Code 21.19 which states that a Class C misdemeanor is committed by a person if they knowingly transmit electronic visual material that depicts any person engaging in sexual conduct or with the person’s intimate parts exposed that is not sent at the request of or with the express consent of the recipient. This applies to all electronic platforms such as e-mail, texts, apps, and social media.

In 2015, the Texas Legislature passed Texas Penal Code Section 21.16, the “Revenge Porn Statute.” In 2017, this law was amended updating the penalty from a Class A Misdemeanor to a state jail felony for someone to reveal or disclose images of someone engaged in sexual conduct or images of someone’s intimate parts unless that person gives their consent when that person had a reasonable expectation that the material would remain private.

Texas Penal Code 33.021 makes it a felony offense to solicit anyone under the age of 17 (a minor), or anyone the offender believes to be under the age of 17, online for sexual contact or have sexually explicit communication with a minor, or someone they believe to be a minor. Texas Penal Code 33.07 states that if a person “uses the name or persona of another person” without that person’s consent and with the intent to harm, threaten, defraud, or intimidate the person, then he or she has committed a felony offense.

Texas Penal Code 21.18 defines sexual coercion as an act involving sexual conduct causing arousal or gratification. This section applies to a threat regardless of how that threat is communicated, including a threat transmitted through e-mail or an Internet website, social media account, or chat room and a threat made by other electronic or technological means. Such action is a felony offense.

Texas Penal Code 43.26 states that it is a felony crime, up to the first degree, for an adult to knowingly or intentionally possess or access with the intent to view material that depicts a child under the age of 18 engaging in sexual conduct; this includes sexting with a minor.

Procedures for Reporting Allegations of Bullying

The district prohibits bullying on school property, at school-sponsored or school-related activities, or in any vehicle operated by the district.  Bullying may be verbal or written expression or expression through electronic means, or physical conduct.  Bullying is not tolerated by the district and any student or parent of a student who believes that the student or another student has experienced bullying or that a student has engaged in bullying is encouraged to immediately report the incident.  Retaliation against anyone involved in the complaint process is a violation of district policy and is prohibited.

Students or parents may report an alleged incident of bullying, orally or in writing, to a teacher, counselor, principal or other district employee.  Students or parents may contact the district to obtain an incident report form that may be used to submit the complaint.

Please note that after submission of the complaint to the district employee, the district may assign the complaint to a campus administrator to follow up on the submitted complaint and any other important matters pertaining to the complaint.  We encourage you to communicate with your designated campus administrator during this time.

Senate Bill 10 FAQ

Senate Bill 10, passed by the Texas Legislature in 2023, requires public schools to display a poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments in classrooms if those posters are privately donated and meet the law’s specifications.

Not automatically. The law only applies when posters are donated. If no posters are donated, schools are not required to purchase or display them.

  • The poster must include only the text of the Ten Commandments (as written in the law).
  • It must be at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall.
  • The text must be large enough to be legible from anywhere in the classroom.
  • It cannot contain additional images, wording, or content.

They are being privately donated.

  • Campuses with 30 or fewer classrooms:
    One poster per classroom.
  • Campuses with 31 or more classrooms:
posters will be placed in this order until supplies are exhausted:

    1. Social Studies classrooms
    2. English/Language Arts classrooms
    3. Math classrooms
    4. Science classrooms

Posters will be placed following the priority list above. If additional donations come in later, campuses will receive more posters to cover remaining classrooms.

We recognize that people will have different perspectives. Our responsibility as a district is to comply with state law. Questions should be directed to the campus principal, who will work with district leadership as needed.

The law became effective September 1, 2025 and applies beginning with the 2025–2026 school year.

Bullying

Welcome parents and students, this website provides education, information and resources regarding Bullying in the K – 12 school environment.  Below under  Bullying Resources you will find links to many numerous educational websites, as well as information and procedures for reporting bullying.
