In compliance with Texas Senate Bill 13 (SB13), New Braunfels ISD is conducting a comprehensive review of library materials to ensure all books available to students align with state guidelines. Using a combination of internal review tools and third-party vendor resources, we have identified titles that require additional evaluation. These books appear in the table below as “Under Review.”

A district review team, led by our Policy and Compliance Coordinator, is carefully examining each title to determine whether it meets the standards outlined in SB13. Once the review is complete, each book will be designated as either SB13 Compliant or SB13 Non-Compliant. This transparent process ensures that our district libraries continue to provide materials that support learning while adhering to state law and community expectations.

Community members will have the opportunity to appeal the removal of any book they believe complies with SB 13 and should remain available in our school libraries through the grievance process. More information on this process can be found here.

In addition, as part of the district’s established process, stakeholders may continue to challenge any book in the district’s collection by submitting a book challenge to the district if they feel a title is not appropriate. More information on that process can be found here.

In preparation of SB13, the following books were permanently removed by the respective campus librarian before the district review team was assembled to review the books on the list. Therefore, they will not receive an SB13 status since they do not exist in the NBISD library system.
