(November 2, 2021) New Braunfels ISD taxpayers approved two of the three propositions listed under the 2021 Bond that went before voters on November 2. These two propositions total $327.9 million in projects to address growth, aging facilities, athletic upgrades (excluding stadiums) and technology.
Under Proposition “A” totaling $321,300,000, the election drew an estimated 61 percent in favor and 39 percent against the bond proposition. A total of 3,204 voters were in favor of the bond and 2,028 against.
NBISD 2021 Bond
Under Proposition “C” totaling $6.6 million for districtwide technology, an estimated 59 percent of the voters cast a ballot in favor and 41 percent against. A total of 3,061 voters voted in favor and 2,157 against.
The total bond presented to voters was $348 million and also included a separate proposition – Proposition B – for a varsity competition stadium at the future Long Creek High School and upgrades to the existing New Braunfels High School press box. This particular proposition did not gain voter approval with an estimated 54 percent voting against.
Long Creek High School
Long Creek High School (LCHS) will be NBISD’s second comprehensive high school. It is scheduled to open in August 2024 at the campus that currently houses the Ninth Grade Center. Funding to add on and expand the campus is being provided through the 2021 Bond Program.

Traffic Pattern Update – Feb. 7, 2023
Starting Monday, February 13, 2023, the first phase of construction will begin at NGC to convert to LCHS. Therefore, the back road currently used for student drop off will be closed for the remainder of the year. Parents will follow the same traffic pattern as they do in the afternoon for student pick up (FOLLOW THE ORANGE ARROW FLOW IN THE PICTURE BELOW). Second school color selected

The NBISD Board selected the second school color for Long Creek High School (LCHS) during their regular monthly board meeting on February 13. They selected the color of dark green to go with the previously selected color of navy blue. Navy blue and dark green will be the colors for the school’s new mascot – the Dragons – that was selected earlier this school year.

NBISD has been working towards a decision regarding the colors of Long Creek High School (LCHS). Last month, NBISD announced the students who will attend the school voted in favor of the Dragon as the school’s mascot. The students then voted in favor of navy blue over a light blue, considered “Carolina blue.” Now that the mascot and primary color has been selected, student will vote on a secondary color next month. (The uniforms above will not be the actual LCHS uniforms. These were used to express the shade of blue.)

New Braunfels High School

New Braunfels High School, at its current site, was first built in 1963. Several additions and upgrades have been funded over the years to expand the school to a comprehensive high school. Funding provided under the 2021 Bond Program will only fund Phase 1 of 2 for the complete replacement of the campus. Funding for Phase 2 will be sought in a future bond referendum.

NBHS Phase 1 Update Sep. 17, 2024
Construction at NBHS is well underway with Phase 1, which was funded by the 2021 Bond Program. This project is the first step in replacing the current campus, which was originally built in 1963. Over the years, NBHS has undergone several expansions, but this new development will reshape the school for a new era of education.
Phase 1 is anticipated to be completed in the Fall of 2025. Projects include in Phase 1 include:
- Construction of a new 3-story academic wing
- Creation of new CTE learning spaces
- Relocation of the JROTC facility, tennis courts and practice fields
- Installation of new turf on baseball and softball fields.
The current phase is part of a two-part plan to replace the NBHS campus. Funding from the 2021 Bond Program covers Phase 1, while Phase 2 was funded by the 2024 Bond Program.

Concrete for the site slab is currently being poured in sections. A tower crane has been installed on the site for construction purposes and will lift heavy materials and equipment to their intendent location within the new building. The crane use will be limited to the area contained by the construction fence and will not impact student & staff safety.

NBHS Traffic Flow Map for August-September (Aug. 14, 2023)
The traffic flow for the first part of the school year has been adjusted due to construction. Once the front parking lot is complete, the routes will be updated.
Memorial plaques have been relocated, trees removed due to construction (July 27, 2023)
Due to the renovation of NBHS, a tree planted in 1969 in memory of a beloved student, Gary Simon, was removed. The dedication plaque for this tree along with all of the other precious memorials on campus were inventories earlier this year. The campus administration made contact with the families to let them know about the relocation of the plaques. All of those plaques or stones have been temporarily relocated along the west side of the library. It is our hope to give them a new home under one of the heritage oaks near the library once construction is completed. We have also identified several other items in the schools that are important keepsakes and will relocate them to the future building. This includes the class panoramic pictures, the artwork in the cases outside the gym and other student portraits that hang throughout the school. We also have plans to move the small mosaic unicorn mural near the indoor planter area to the new school and install a replica of the glass mural of unicorns that now stands in the Commons Area. All of these are important pieces of the school’s history that we fully intend to preserve.
Summer 2023 Traffic Flow Map

This traffic flow map is for May 30, 2023, until early August 2023. An updated map will be provided for the fall once it is finalized. The main project that will affect parking and traffic flow over the summer is the closure of the front parking lot that will be expanded and projected to be reopened in fall. The rear parking lot is projected to be closed during the entire duration of the new construction.

Exciting developments are underway in NBISD as construction on Elementary #11 (site of the new Lamar Elementary School) is officially in motion! Designed to address growing enrollment needs, this school will offer relief to Veramendi Elementary and tackle future capacity concerns at the existing Lamar Elementary.
Nestled off Loop 337 near Oakwood Church in the Veramendi Development, the new campus is anticipated to open in the Fall of 2025.
The Lamar Elementary project is a key part of NBISD’s ongoing efforts to provide innovative learning environments for our students. Stay tuned for more updates as this new campus begins to take shape!

Painting is underway on the interior, and the brick is being installed on the exterior. The projected completion date is Fall 2024.

The columns and beams have been delivered to allow the building to go vertical. A crane will be delivered to the site in early-March.
KRE final section of concrete is poured
The last section of the concrete slab has been poured, and the retaining blocks have been placed and grouted around the perimeter.

Seele Elementary Renovations
