Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury has been the proud superintendent of New Braunfels ISD since May 2023. With over 20 years in education, she began her career as a high school teacher in Round Rock ISD. She served as Chief of Staff for Leander ISD for two years, part of her seven-year tenure there, which included roles as Area Superintendent, Interim Chief Technology Officer, and Executive Director for College and Career Pathways.

Biography

In Round Rock ISD, Dr. Arterbury spent 16 years, with positions such as Principal of Westwood High School, Associate Principal at Stony Point High School and the Stony Point Ninth Grade Center (SPHS-NGC), and as a teacher and department chair at SPHS-NGC.

Dr. Arterbury earned her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University, her Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Texas State University, and her Bachelor of Arts in History from The University of Texas at Austin. She is active in professional organizations including the American Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Texas Association of School Administrators, and she served as the Treasurer for Region 13’s Executive Board for the Texas Council of Women School Executives. She has also taught doctoral-level courses at Baylor University and master’s-level courses at Concordia University as an adjunct professor, to help in the development of future school administrators.

Before joining NBISD, Dr. Arterbury gained extensive experience in two large, fast-growth districts in Central Texas, managing up to 42,000 students and 5,500 employees. She initiated several leadership programs like the Leander ISD Aspiring Administrators Academy, the Principal Preparation Program, and the Aspiring Leader Program, and spearheaded strategic and long-range planning efforts.

Dr. Arterbury resides in New Braunfels with her two children, who attend New Braunfels ISD.
