Transfer Exceptions
Student transfer exceptions are requests for students to attend a campus to which they are not zoned by their address. Transfer exceptions must be initiated by a parent/legal guardian. A completed transfer exception application and required supporting documents are to be submitted to the NBISD Student Services Department.
Transportation will not be provided should the transfer exception be granted. All transfer exception applications must be submitted annually.

Sibling Transfer
LCHS will include grades 9-12 for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. You may apply for a Sibling Transfer Exception by filling out the form below for your incoming 8th grader if you meet the criteria outlined below.
Long Creek High School has 9th and 10th Grades
LCHS 9th and 10th graders who have 11th or 12th grade siblings at NBHS during the 24-25 school year can choose to become a transfer student and attend NBHS with their siblings and then remain at that campus for the duration of their four years in high school, or they can choose to attend LCHS. Transportation for sibling transfers will be provided during the 2024-2025 school year.
Long Creek High School has 9th, 10th and 11th Grades
LCHS 9th graders who have 12th grade siblings at NBHS during the 25-26 school year can choose to become a transfer student and attend NBHS with their siblings and then remain at that campus for the duration of their four years in high school, or they can choose to attend LCHS. Transportation for sibling transfers will be provided during the 2025-2026 school year. Approved transfer students will be eligible for Varsity UIL sports at the school first selected if he/she transferred at their first opportunity. Students that return to their home campus or have their transfer revoked will lose their UIL eligibility for one calendar year from the time of their return to home campus or revocation of the transfer.
Long Creek High School has 9th, 10th 11th and 12th Grades
If you had a child in the NBHS 2025 or 2026 graduating class, and you have another child that was granted a Sibling Transfer Exception to attend NBHS, future siblings may apply for a continuation of the Sibling Transfer Exception. This exception will only apply to families that have two or more children enrolled in grades 9-12 at the same time.
Please note: Beginning the 2026-2027 school year, transportation will not be provided for any sibling transfers.
Approved transfer students will be eligible for Varsity UIL sports at the school first selected if he/she transferred at their first opportunity. Students that return to their home campus or have their transfer revoked will lose their UIL eligibility for one calendar year from the time of their return to home campus or revocation of the transfer.
Employee Student Transfer
Full-time New Braunfels ISD employees may apply for their child(ren) to transfer to a campus within the feeder pattern of their assigned work location. Transfer approvals are subject to availability, including class sizes, enrollment, and resources.
Peace Officer Transfer
Students who are the children of peace officers may apply for a transfer to a campus or district. Peace Officers must provide proof of employment when applying for a transfer for their child.
Military Transfer
New Braunfels ISD in accordance with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children supports closing educational gaps as military families and their children transfer between school districts and states due to relocations and deployments. Service members can apply for their children to transfer to a campus or district. For this transfer a service member is defined as an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States or in the Texas National Guard.
Reasons for Denial or Revocation
- Admission that creates adverse conditions for New Braunfels ISD in terms of space, financial exigency, or personnel or capital outlay requirements.
- A transfer application will be denied or revoked if the student has displayed behavior that resulted in the following disciplinary actions during the term of application and the school year prior to application: a) Persistent misbehavior; b) Excessive tardiness or excessive absences (more than 10 absences during the school term); c)Placement to a discipline alternative education program; d) Expulsion from school; e) Felony/Criminal Conviction.
- Student becomes a disruption to school operation and/or a detriment to the learning of other students.
- Student has a record of excessive absences, late arrivals, late pick-ups, and/or disciplinary infractions at transfer campus.
- Lack of parental cooperation.
- Falsification of enrollment documents.
- Grade level, instructional program and/or campus enrollment exceeds capacity.
- Any other disruptions by the student or parent that interfere with the school’s daily operations.
Foreign Exchange Program
The New Braunfels Independent School District’s (NBISD) foreign exchange program provides students from other countries the opportunity to learn about the history of the United States, the working of our government, and to become more fluent in both the written and spoken English Language. Students are encouraged to take an active part in the academic process and to experience the social culture of youth in NBISD.
Thank you for your interest in participating in NBISD’s Foreign Exchange Program for the 2026–2027 academic year. NBISD has received an approved waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that allows for a limited number of foreign exchange student enrollments at each high school campus. This ensures a high-quality experience and appropriate support for all participating students.
As a participant in the program, all students are expected to follow district policies, guidelines, and behavioral expectations outlined by NBISD.
2026-2027 Application Process
The New Braunfels ISD Foreign Exchange Application cycle will open on April 1, 2026 and will close on April 30, 2026. Applications submitted outside of this window will not be reviewed.
Applications will be reviewed and approved on a first come, first serve basis. Applications that are incomplete, or that do not include all required information, will automatically be denied.

Immigration Information
Support for Families
New Braunfels ISD is dedicated to providing a safe and engaging learning environment for all of our students. All schools are required by law to provide equal education opportunities to all students who are eligible to attend the District’s schools. The immigration status of our students or families does not change our obligation to educate. NBISD does not maintain records with student’s immigration status, and does not share confidential student information without a lawful warrant, subpoena, or permission from the student’s legal parent or guardian.
NBISD will continue to monitor and comply with all state and federal laws. Should Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers appear on one of our campuses, they will be treated with the same respect any other law enforcement officer is treated. As with all other law enforcement presence on campuses, or requests to access or question students, administrative staff should first request identification to verify the identity of any law enforcement officials and determine the legal authority for any requests being made. NBISD also has specific policies (Board Policy GRA -Local) in place to provide guidance in these situations.
As more information becomes available at the federal level, NBISD will continue to consult with our legal team and law enforcement agencies to ensure we are complying with all laws moving forward.
NBISD has support systems in place that are available to students experiencing transition, such as our SAFE-T (Students and Families Experiencing Transition) program and our school counseling program.

Support for Educators
Teachers are empowered to create safe learning environments and help students develop social and emotional skills alongside academics. If your students or parents have questions about how immigration policies may affect them, there are resources you can direct them to. If necessary, refer students to school counselors who can provide additional mental health support. If a student or parent has questions regarding additional support services, please have them speak with your principal or campus counselor.

Students and Families Experiencing Transition
Our program works with students and families meeting criteria for the McKinney-Vento Act implemented to ensure all students have the right to an education regardless of their living situation. The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that provides services to these students. The program provides services to help these students immediately enroll in school and have equitable access to education and opportunities for success.
Restorative Discipline
Restorative discipline practices are used in schools to foster an equitable and positive school culture. Restorative practices focus on strengthening relationships and connections between individuals, both youth and adults, in a school community.
