Through the strategic planning process, NBISD identified an opportunity to align with the community’s call for innovative, future-ready learning experiences.

A Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) was established to provide valuable insight and collaboration between families and the district. The perspectives and feedback shared through this group played a pivotal role in shaping the campus model. Out of these discussions the campus concept of CREATE was formed, a model designed to foster creativity, leadership, and student-centered learning experiences.

Through the process, the PAC surveyed the community and visited other innovative campus models around the state. The feedback and campus experiences lead to key takeaways from a variety of existing campus models including fine arts, STEM, leadership, etc. It became apparent that the both the PAC and the community wanted something unique for NBISD that offers our students not only a great education, but a multi-faceted learning environment that is special and truly enhances the depth of learning.

After analyzing common words, activities, response patterns, and consolidating all the data, one word consistently emerged at the top: “CREATE.”

The PAC had much discussion and worked through several iterations before landing on these six foundational pillars for the concept of CREATE: C for Curiosity, R for Resilience, E for Entrepreneurship, A for Artistry, T for Teamwork, and E for Empowerment. These powerful themes are intended to guide curriculum and activities while serving as a unifying purpose for students’ learning experiences.

• Together for the Future – Our Future-Ready Curriculum prepares students to be curious explorers, creative problem solvers, and caring citizens. With the support of families, school staff, board members, high school mentors, and community programs, every child will see that their voice, ideas, and actions matter — today and in the future. 
• Entrepreneurship – Students become young entrepreneurs who dream, design, and build alongside their community. Through partnerships with local creators and entrepreneurs, as well as hands-on projects, they discover that their ideas have the power to help others and make the world a better place. 
• Learning Beyond Walls – Learning extends far beyond textbooks, unfolding through hands-on projects, vibrant showcases, and genuine community experiences. This isn’t just a curriculum: it’s a launchpad for curiosity, creativity, and our students’ dreams. 
• Future-Makers in Action – Students will be involved in projects such as burying a Time Capsule, designing a Green City, and writing and publishing their own books to share their stories. They’ll also curate museums of traditions and invent solutions that prove even the youngest learners can make a positive impact on the world. 
• World Connections – Learning begins with our own New Braunfels heritage and extends outward to global cultures, helping students see their place in an interconnected world. Each unit invites children to explore traditions, histories, and perspectives that build cultural awareness, empathy, and a true sense of global citizenship. 
• Together in Celebration– Parents, grandparents, and community members are part of the journey! Throughout the year, families are welcomed into classrooms and invited to culminating events, such as The World Fair, the Discovery Expo, or The World Premiere, to see students shine.
• Hands-On Discovery – Learning comes alive as students design, build, and create solutions to real-world challenges. Through inquiry and exploration, every child becomes an inventor, investigator, and problem solver, discovering the joy of learning through hands-on experiences. 
• Leadership – Our curriculum creates a balance between academics and social-emotional growth, leadership skills, and creativity. Rooted in The Leader in Me philosophy, students learn to take responsibility, make positive choices, and discover their unique strengths as they prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the future. 
• Growing Through CREATE – Every experience builds Curiosity, Resilience, Entrepreneurship, Artistry, Teamwork, and Empowerment, while encouraging even our youngest learners to ask big questions, make connections, and think deeply. 
• Future-Focused Learning – Collaboration, innovation, and adaptability are woven into every unit, ensuring students practice the very skills they’ll need in tomorrow’s world. Our curriculum equips children to become confident problem-solvers and creative thinkers, prepared to thrive in any future they choose.
