Reading Language Arts

Prerequisite:  Reading Language Arts 5

Description
This 6th Grade Reading Language Arts course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in reading and writing. Students will strengthen their skills in comprehension, response, multiple genres, author’s purpose, writer’s craft, composition, inquiry, and research by developing critical, analytical and creative thinking, close reading, written conventions and composition. Students will be expected to read and write on a daily basis.  What’s Next? Reading Language Arts 7 or Reading Language Arts Honors 7

Prerequisite: Reading Language Arts 5

This 6th Grade Reading Language Arts Honors course provides challenging course work that emphasizes key literacy and analysis skills. Students will have opportunities to strengthen skills in evidence-based writing, close observation and analysis, higher-order questioning, and academic conversation in preparation for advanced courses in High School. The class will cover all essential knowledge and skills for 6th grade Reading Language Arts, and emphasis is placed on developing critical and creative thinking, as well as analysis of author’s purpose and writer’s craft through required reading, discussions, essays, and exams. Students will be expected to read and write on a daily basis.  What’s Next? Reading Language Arts 7 or Reading Language Arts 7 Honors

The Reading Language Arts Honors course will challenge and enrich students, expanding their experience beyond the typical program. Success requires the student’s commitment to the expectations of the Honors course. This course will prepare students for English I Honors as well as future Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, or OnRamps Dual Enrollment programs. Students will have opportunities to strengthen skills in evidence-based writing, close observation and analysis, higher-order questioning, and academic conversation in preparation for the advanced courses in High School. The class will cover all essential knowledge and skills for 8th grade Reading Language Arts, and emphasis is placed on developing critical and creative thinking, as well as analysis of author’s purpose and writer’s craft through required reading, discussions, essays, and exams. Students will be expected to read and write on a daily basis.  What’s next in high school? English I or English I Honors
