2017-2018 NBHS Students of the Month

Outstanding students from New Braunfels High School are honored as the Students of the Month and recognized at the monthly board meeting.

  •  Pedro Uribe Stevens - NBHS Male Student of the Month for May 2018 pictured with his family on May 21, 2018Pedro Uribe Stevens has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a four-year member of the NBHS Soccer Team with three of those years being on the Varsity team. He is a three-year member of the NBHS LEOS Club, a three-year member of the NHBS Drama Club and a one-year member of the NBHS Key Club. He participated in the Drama Class Fall productions for two years and acted in two One Act Play Productions, both of which advanced to the district level. He received the award for Best Actor at Zone and Honorable Mention All-Star Cast at District for his part in the 2018 One Act Play. Uribe Stevens also spent four-years with the CISV International Summer Exchange Youth Camp. He plans to attend NYU to study acting. He hopes to become a movie actor and someday win an Academy Award. He is the son of Pauline Stevens and Jose Uribe.

    Kathryn Day NBHS Female Student of the Month for May 2018 with her mother, Mari Beth

    Kathryn Day has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the NBHS Key Club,  served as the NBHS Key Club Treasurer and a four-year member of the NBHS Cross Country Team.  Day is the 2018 NBHS Valedictorian. She is a three-year member of the Freedom Fellowship Youth Group. After graduation, she will be attending Texas A&M University to major in Biomedical Engineering. She wants to design prosthetic limbs and help those who need them to become more comfortable with themselves. She is the daughter of Mari Beth and Johnny Day.

  • Jonauh Casaus NBHS Female Student of the Month for April 2018 Jonauh Casaus has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a three-year member of NBHS Student Council serving as the NBHS Student Council President her sophomore year, NBHS Student Council Vice President her Junior year and is currently serving as the NBHS Student Council President. She has also served one year as the Secretary for the Texas Association of Student Councils for District 18 and worked on the State Student Council team to help coordinate the Annual TExas Association of Student Council State Conventions in Arlington. She spent one year working with and learning the with the Inner Club Council and a also participated in basketball and theatre one year. She regularly volunteers and works with local churches and  has taught Vacation Bible School in New Braunfels and New Mexico. She plans on attending San Antonio College to pursue a degree in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. She plans on either working for a local precinct or assisting law enforcement agencies with criminal cases. She is the daughter of Tina Johnson and Oliver Johnson.

    Hampton Gray has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of the NBHS Unicorn Band and a three-year member of the Texas Future Music Educators. He spends more than 40 hours per year volunteering in the community as a counselor at Makerspace Technology Camp, the Comal Trails Alliance and for Science Fest. He plans to study either Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines, The University of Texas or the Texas A&M Honors Program. He is the son of Bob and Chandler Gray.

  • Rebecca Ward - New Braunfels High School Student of the Month for March 2018 with her family at the March 19, 2018 Board meeting

    Rebecca Ward has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, a three-year member of  NBHS HOSA serving one-year as the HOSA Vice President,  a four-year member of the UIL Academics Competition Team in the Science Category, a one-year member of the Freshmen Scrub Club, and a one-year member of the Key Club where she served as President. She is also a member of  the New Braunfels Youth Leadership Program, a three-year member of the New Braunfels Emergency Response Team, she has volunteered one year as a Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army, a one-year volunteer at the West Side Community Center as a tutor, a one-year volunteer at the New Braunfels Humane Society and she has also volunteered for one year for Meals on Wheels.  She placed 2nd at the UIL Academic Science Team competition, 6th place at the State HOSA competition, 2nd place at the Area HOSA competition, and she is a two-time recipient of the American Legion Award.  She will be attending Texas A&M in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She plans on continuing on to medical school to specialize in Psychiatry. She wants to open her own private practice after completing school. She is the daughter of Joe and Tammy Ward.

    Joseph Terrones, NBHS Student of the Month for March 2018, with his family at the March 19, 2018, Board meeting.Joseph Terrones has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of the NBHS JROTC Drill Team serving as the current Commander of the Drill Team, one year as the Assistant Commander of the Drill Team, he is the current Company Commander of NBHS JROTC, he was the Color Guard Commander his Junior Year and is serving as Assistant Color Guard Commander this year along with being the Battalion Supply Commander.  He is a three-year member of HOSA serving as Secretary for one year, and a two-year member of the NBHS Leo Club serving one year as the Leo Club Vice President. Terrones has been an Alter Server for Holy Family Catholic Church for six years. He plans to attend Texas Tech University and obtain a bachelor's degree in Biology. He also plans to be commissioned into the U.S. Armed Forces and attend medical school specializing in Cardiology. He is the son of Lt.Col. Joseph Terrones and Barbara Terrones.

  • NBHS Female Student of the Month for February 2018 Stefany Dominguez with her family at the Feb. 12, 2018, Board meeting.

    Stefany Dominguez has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a member of National Honor Society, a one-year member of  HOSA, a member of the Rachel’s Challenge Committee and a one-year member of the Scrub Club. She has been a Communities In Schools (CIS) advocate for six years and volunteers at the CIS Thrift Store. For the past six years, she has served as a volunteer at the Westside Community Center Library and also worked as a volunteer at the Westside Community Center for one year. Dominguez has provided four years of alter service at Holy Family Catholic Church and has helped in the church office for three years. She plans on going to college to  pursue a career in the medical field. She is the daughter of Mariano Dominguez and Yesica Del Carmen Dominguez.

    Tate Korpi has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is the Mu Alpha Theta NBHS Math Club Treasurer and a two-year member of the National Honor Society where he served as Vice President. He is a three-year member of the NBHS Business Professionals of America (BPA) and is currently serving as President. He is a BPA State Qualifier, a National Pin Design Winner and the State Officer Campaign Manager. He has been a member of the NBHS Unicorn Band for three years where he serves as a section leader and is a two-time UIL Solo and Ensemble State Qualifier. Korpi also participates in UIL Academics and was named a Regional Finalist for two years in the Current Events and Issues category. He is a PTA Reflections State Finalist in photography and had of his photos from the NBHS football games placed in the yearbook. He participated in the 2017 Youth Leadership New Braunfels program and the Mid Texas Symphony Debutante Program. Korpi plans to attend Baylor University and study at the Hankamer School of Business in the honors program. He would like to pursue a career with the United States Government, with his ultimate goal being a United States Senator. He is the son of Kevin and Shealynn Korpi.

  • NBHS Female Student of the Month for January 2018 - Robin, Abigail and Roslin Adams during the January 22, 2018, Board meeting.Abigail Adams has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of National Honor Society, a four-year NBHS Varsity Golf letterman and a three-year member of the NBHS chapter of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Her golf honors include being a 2016 regional medalist and state qualifier as well as a three-time New Braunfels Junior City Champion. Outside of school, she has been involved in the Oakwood Baptist Student Ministry for six years. She will be attending the University of Texas - Arlington on a golf and academic scholarship while studying Biology as a Pre-Med student. She plans to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. She is the daughter of Robin & Rustin Adams.

    NBHS Male Student of the Month for January 2018 - Anna Davenport, Ryland Lane and Mark West at the January 22, 2018, Board meeting.

    Ryland Lane has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a three-year member of the football team, track team and  the NBHS chapter of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). He is a two-year member of the UIL Academics team, a one-year member of Science Olympiad and a member of the Blue Crew. He is also involved in the NBHS Shadowing Program, NBHS Cert Team and NBHS Math Club. He plans on attending Texas A&M University for his undergraduate degree and then majoring in biology at the Texas Tech School of Medicine. He plans to be a doctor specializing in Pediatric Internal Medicine. He is the son of Anna Davenport and Mark West.

  • NBHS Student of the Month for December 2017: Bridget Martin with her parents William Kelly and Belinda Martin (12/18/2017)

    Bridget Martin has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She has been a member of the NBHS FFA and is currently the president after serving two years as secretary. She is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society and NBHS Math Club,  a one-year member of NBHS Key Club and a NBHS Unicorn Handler. She has been an eight-year member of 4-H, holding a wide range of officer positions in many clubs, serving five-years on the 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl and Hippology team, and six years on the Veterinary Science team. She is also a three-year Texas Equine Ambassador, a member of the Alamo Area Youth Horse Association and a member of Interscholastic Equestrian Association for one-year in Reining and Horsemanship. She plans to receive a Biomedical Science Degree from Texas A&M University and then obtain a Doctorate in Optometry. She is the daughter of  Belinda and William Kelly Martin.

    NBHS Student of the Month for December  2017: NBHS Male Student of the Month for December 2017 - William Coronado (center) and his parents Mark (left) and Mary Coronado (right)

    William Coronado has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He has been a four-year member of the NBHS Baseball program, a three-year member of the NBHS Football program, and a two-year member of the National Honor Society. He also coaches middle school 7-on-7 and youth flag football and  was crowned the 2017 NBHS Homecoming King. He has spent three  years playing for the South Texas Select Baseball team and is a very active member of Oakwood Baptist Church youth group. He is currently leading a baseball bible study on Tuesday nights. He plans on attending Texas Tech University to pursue a degree in Engineering. He is the son of Mark and Mary Coronado.

  • NBHS Student of the Month for November 2017: Janie Aguilar (center) with Board Trustee Michael Calta and her mother Mary Jane Aguilar. (11/13/2017)

    Janie Aguilar has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She has been a member of the NBHS MCJROTC and is currently the Battalion Commander and Marksmanship Team Captain. She is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor society and NBHS Band  a one-year member of HOSA and the French Club. She volunteers and performs with Color Guards throughout the community. She plans to attend a college for four years and then commission into the United States Military. She is the daughter of Mary Jane Aguilar.

    NBHS Student of the Month for November 2017: Jose Uribe, Pauline Stevens and Santiago Uribe with Board President James Bettersworth at the Board Meeting held November 13, 2017.Santiago Uribe has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He has been a four-year member of the NBHS Varsity Soccer Team, a member and Co-Founder of the CISV San Antonio/Austin Chapter for four years serving as Secretary his Junior year and as Activities Director his senior year.  He is a three-year member of the NBHS Key Club and NBHS Leo Club and a two-year member of the National Honor Society, NBHS Math Club and Business Professionals of America (BPA). His BPA honors include currently serving as the chapter’s reporter and placing  4th at the state level in Entrepreneurship.This semester he served as a member of the NBHS Blue Crew. This past summer, Uribe taught English in Cusco, Peru. He is currently undecided on where he will attend college but he plans to study Finance and Economics and become a private equity fund manager. He is the son of Jose Uribe and Pauline Stevens.

  • NBHS Student of the Month for October 2017: Nika, Hannah and Steve Jacobs with Board Secretary Wes Clark during the October 16, 2017 Board meeting.Hannah Jacobs has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She has been a member of the  volleyball and basketball teams all four years and on varsity for three years. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and is currently ranked in the Top 10 Percent of her graduating class. She spent one year as a volunteer tutoring her peers and helping coach younger children. She plans to attend Southern Methodist University to play volleyball. She is the daughter of Steve and Nika Jacobs.

    NBHS Student of the Month for September 2017: Kyle, Clancy and Richard Forlano with Board Vice President Sherry Harrison at the October 16, 2017, Board meeting.

    Clancy Forlano has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He has been a member of the Mighty Unicorn Band for four years and served two years as the trumpet section leader. He is also a four-year member of the Marine Corps JROTC and served as the Company Executive Officer. He also participated in UIL Academics for four years and competed in the Current Events and Social Studies competitions. For the past seven years he has been a Boy Scout and recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Outside of school, he is involved with the First United Methodist Youth Group. He plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in Biomedical Engineering. He is the son of Richard and Kyle Forlano.

  • NBHS Student of the Month for September 2017:Lisa, Deborah and Anthony Tate with Board Vice President Sherry Harrison at the Sept. 18, 2017, Board meeting.Deborah Tate has attended NBHS for the past four years. Tate is a two-year member of the National Honor Society Landa Chapter and  the Class of 2018 Vice President. She is  a graduate of New Braunfels Youth Leadership, a citizen of the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Girls State and is a two-year member of MU Alpha Theata (Math Club). She has also served as the NBHS varsity mascot,  Eugene, for the past two years and is a four-year member of the NBHS Varsity Track and Field team competing in shot put and discuss. Tate is also a volunteer and member of the worship team for Freedom Fellowship Church. She plans to attend Dallas Baptist University or Abilene Christian University upon graduation to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries and master’s degree in Biblical Theology. She is the daughter of Anthony and Lisa Tate.

    NBHS Student of the Month for September 2017: Mat, Trevor and Kaysa Pierce with Board Secretary Wes Clark during the Oct. 18, 2017 Board meeting.Trevor Pierce has attended NBHS all four years of high school. Pierce is a four-year member of the NBHS football team, a three-year member of the NBHS Track team, and he has spent two years coaching the middle school 7-on-7 flag football.  He was also a  member of Business Professional of America and qualified for State with the Broadcast News Team. He served one year as a member of the Wednesday Night Youth Group at Oakwood Baptist Church and one summer season with the football team bible study and served as an escort for the 2017 Mid Texas Symphony Debutante Ball. After graduation he plans to go on the World Race Gap Year program. It is a 9-month mission trip that will take him to 5 or 6 different countries. He feels that his calling is in Ministry. Upon his return, he plans on attending Dallas Baptist University and go into Ministry. He is the son of Mat and Kaysa Pierce.
